Shepherds Burn Cottage

Shepherd’s Burn was lovely, we wanted peace and quiet and we got it.

It was much bigger than we thought and SO clean. It’s in a beautiful spot, plenty of walks or cycle rides from the doorstep and no distance at all from Kielder Water by car. Very helpful owner and every single person we met was so friendly. I can’t think of anything negative and would definitely stay there again. Such a beautiful cottage and area.

Shepherd’s Burn Cottage was lovely, very well equipped and clean.

The cottage has an enclosed garden, so dog friendly and walks from the door. The welcome gifts were much appreciated after a long drive. If you like peaceful settings this the cottage for you. We will definitely hope to come back. Thank you

The cottage was so quiet and remote, on the edge of Kielder forest and the national park but within range of Hadrians Wall and Hexham, or Alnwick and the coast if you wanted a longer drive, just what we were looking for.

Cleanliness was impeccable and the facilities were everything we needed and more. Garden was secure for the dog and big. All in all we would happily return.

Shepherds Burn is a stunning cottage, beautifully decorated, comfortable rooms and everything provided for a relaxing break.

Added to the exceptional cottage inside you are surrounded by great views and walks straight from the front door. The secure garden is a real plus for the safety of your dogs and a great place to sit and relax. Highly recommended if you want a quiet break away from life’s chaos to relax and recharge.

Absolutely loved our stay here.

Was literally home from home. Had everything we needed. Was clean, spacious, comfortable and in a beautiful location. Is visiting Northumberland again, we will 100% be staying here. The garden is such a lovely big size for the dog to run around in. If you turn left out of the property and walk up the hill, you can turn left or right at the top, leading you on to 2 beautiful walks, right from your doorstep. Just be sure to grab your wishlist/food/drink on your way to the cottage, as there are no big shops nearby, just a coop about 15 mins away. We arranged for a delivery on our arrival so that worked out perfectly, and topped up bits on the days that we visited nearby towns, but i think a supermarket is a good 40 mins away. You will not be disappointed in staying here. Loved every second of it and already miss it!

Our second visit to Shepherds Burn and just as good.

The property is very spacious with comfortable furnishings, comfy bed and high quality bedding. It was super clean and well maintained, with a well equipped kitchen and a large enclosed rear garden. It is remote but so very peaceful and a lovely place to relax and unwind. You can walk from the door or pleasant riverside walks from nearby Bellingham. The ‘Tea Train’ cafe well worth a visit. The owner Simon is friendly but not intrusive and thumbs up to Jess the cleaner.

Beautiful cottage in a fantastic location one of the best we have stayed in it was spotlessly clean , warm and very comfortable ' Kitchen well equipped and the welcome pack much appreciated, Thoroughly enjoyed the week and will definitely rebook owner extremely helpful re places to visit and walks from the front door

What a beautiful place set in gorgeous surroundings.

Everything was clean on arrival and even some milk and wine in the fridge. The scones were an added bonus and I must say they were delicious. The bedrooms are well laid out and comfortable. The front room and kitchen being open made it really easy to relax in whilst making food or drinks. We had the fire going most nights and this helped to keep us warm although the heating did do a good job of keeping the place nice and warm too but it did freeze on one of our nights so the added bonus of the fire was welcomed, we purchased extra wood from the wood store around the back and left the money on the table as Instructed in the booklet. It's down the end of a very long lane but it's worth it for the peace and quiet and the stunning scenery. We managed to see the stars too one evening which was amazing. We would happily book this property again.

The cottage is in a quiet peaceful location with scenic views from every window and short walks from the door.

It is well thought out and well equipped, spacious and comfortable, with cosy beds ensuring a good nights sleep. To get there you drive down a narrow lane, which isn't busy.

The decor inside is exactly like the photos and views of the hills and big skys are amazing . We had a marvellous stay and definitely book again now we know the area . The beds are comfy so are the sofas the kitchen had everything g . We really loved having the garden and the space was incredible, as city people we were blown away !! It is more remote than I understood , the Wi-Fi was a bit patchy on some days due to the area i guess. We found the best icecream of our lives at a parlour in Amble the nicest kindest people running the best cafe with the best cake in Rochester . Bring games you like and books . Oh !! and binoculars the views and birds and the stars all so wonderful . Thankyou for a great time with our family.

Absolutely wonderful week away in a gorgeous cottage.

It is beautifully furnished, with a very comfy sofa and double bed. Lots of nice little touches with scones and wine gifted on arrival, along with lots of amenities provided like teabags, shower gel, dishwasher tablets etc. The garden is huge and secure, perfect for our dog. Overall would absolutely recommend for anyone staying near Kielder Water.

A spacious, very comfortable ground level property with a large, securely enclosed grassed garden - ideal for us and our Labrador.

The welcome pack of home made scones and wine were much appreciated. The location is quiet, at the end of a tarmacked forestry lane with adequate passing places and courteous local drivers, so no worries there ! Stunning moorland drives, beautiful forestry walks and Kielder Water are a short distance away. Wallington Hall gardens and river walk are well worth a visit - very dog friendly.

A delightful cottage, definitely one of our very best stays and worthy of its 5 stars.

Shepherds Burn Cottage is exactly as the photos.

It’s immaculately clean inside with everything we needed. The cottage is stunning with charm, character and comfort. We felt totally relaxed sitting in the garden, which is fabulous for dogs and children to run around safely and enjoy. On an evening we loved to relax on the comfortable sofa. I highly recommended this beautiful cottage in a fabulous quiet location.

A peaceful getaway.

The cottage is in beautiful surroundings at the end of a track. One of the best we have stayed in (and we have had some nice ones) It is very comfortable and spotless with everything you need and we felt very at home. The garden was great for our dogs. Even Chihuahua proof. The owner is very helpful and welcoming. I have recommended to our family and friends. We hope to return at some time in the future .

Lovely location, plenty of parking space, massive rooms and garden.

Host lives next door, very friendly and so is his pooch. Could do with a bit more room for wet gear in entrance lobby - bigger coat hanger and possibly a bench/store for muddy boots. Living room is nice and large, could do with a few more side tables for cups/glasses next to the massive sofa. Lighting is quite subdued and not great for reading. Excellent location for Astrophotography if the weather is kind, better luck next time.

There's now a mobile signal for both voice and data at the cottage!

This was on the 3 network. No signal yet on EE. I got 7mps down on data compared with 4mps on wi-fi, the latter being rock steady. Voice calls on mobile were nice and clear, although we mainly used wi-fi calling. We've stayed at dozens of cottages over the years and this was undoubtedly the best. It's extremely spacious to say the least. We won't stay anywhere that doesn't have a bath and a 3 seater settee. This has both. We consider these essential when we've been on our feet all day. The L-shaped sofa is particularly comfortable. The king size bed was too firm for our tastes, but most guests would probably love it. We slept in the twin room and found these beds nice and comfortable. The kitchen is extremely well equipped to say the least, and we appreciated the dishwasher. The only slight downside is the lighting, especially in the kitchen. The cottage is isolated, but the 2 mile single track road is tarmacked. It's about 15 minutes from the small town of Bellingham in the direction of Kielder Water. As a result stargazing here is exceptional with the bonus of a south facing rear garden. On the 2 clear nights we had I recorded a sky brightness of 21.4mag/arcsecondsquared even with the Milky Way overhead. Highly recommended.

Idilic cottage .

Cosy, clean, comfortable and beautiful. The garden was perfect too. Fantastic walks from the door and lots to do nearby . Will definitely be back with other family as a gorgeous one next door too. 100% recommend. Will be back

A lovely property, very peaceful and idyllic.

It is worth noting it is a good fifteen minutes from facilities, which was no problem for us but others might not find so suitable. There are some beautiful places to visit around the area, lovely walks, and towns to peruse. The Holly Bush Inn in the nearest village is excellent and certainly worth a visit. It’s a very comfortable property with everything you could wish for, and certainly perfect for dogs! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Norfolk Family

Any necessary information was available and clear and the owner very helpful when we had a question. Would love to stay there again.

We had a wonderful week at shepherd's burn cottage.

The cottage was beautifully maintained, clean and spacious, with a large , grassed, secure garden. Perfect for families and pets. Set in a remote location, it was extremely tranquil and peaceful, with footpaths from the doorstep, into the amazing countryside and forests. Although remote, Keilder reservoir is just minutes away, as is the village of Bellingham, where you can get all the supplies you need. Many more attractions to be discovered. Loved it.

We loved our stay, what a beautiful hide away.

This cottage was the best we've ever stayed in, and there have been quite a few over the years.

It was plentifully supplied with crockery, cutlery and glasses. It was spacious and comfortable with a lovely large walled garden. The owner was in the adjoining house and was welcoming and informative, all in all I would recommend this cottage if you want a relaxing, peaceful holiday in lovely countryside.

If you have got as far as reading this then you are interested in renting Shepherds Burn, don't look for other properties in the area this one is just great.

Hiking, cycling, a base to start exploring from or just chilling out watching the wildlife then look no further book it. You'll find the cottage a couple of miles down a tarmac track which means no passing traffic, except the very infrequent farm or forestry vehicles (and I mean very infrequent). The cottage itself is beautifully maintained with everything you need for your stay and a large dog proof garden (how many times have I heard that phrase only to be disappointed - but not here) There are many tracks/bridleways through the forest that you can explore from the doorstep or a short drive takes you to Kielder reservoir and longer to every village and small town to the coast. The nearest village is Bellingham which is well stocked for your shopping needs, do look in the Country Store, possibly the most well stocked shop in Northumberland. From where I live we have the dubious joys of commuting up the appalling road work/accident filled A1 even that won't stop me going returning, to quote Mr A Schwarzenegger "I'll be back" A great cottage, in a great location rented from lovely people.

The cottage was very cosy and we enjoyed making use of the log burner. It was a fantastic location, very relaxing. The owner was very welcoming and friendly and there was lots to do nearby

Gorgeous cottage, bigger than expected from pics.

The beds and bedding were lovely, so snuggly! Location was good for me - quite isolated - lovely starry sky at night and clear views of milky way. Loved the peace and quiet.

Really nice property located on the edge of Kielder.

Lovely and peaceful with lots of walks from the doorstep. The owner was very accommodating in allowing us to use the grounds if we wished. The garden was particularly great as all enclosed for allowing the dogs to have a safe space to run around as well as allowing for star gazing, which was amazing!

Such a beautiful cottage in the heart of Northumberland National Park.

It is really a home from home with a fully equipped kitchen. The pillows were a little soft for my personal taste, but you could tell that they were of high quality. The garden was large enough for a kickabout, but if you want more room there is a field literally outside of the garden gate. There is a nice selection of board games and jigsaws on site. Simon and Cosmo are unobtrusively on hand for anything that you need, including advice on where to go or how long travel takes to different places. Simon also left us a lovely welcome gift of wine and biscuits. There is no phone signal on the road to the cottage, or at the cottage, but WiFi is provided for this.

An absolutely cracking cottage.

Well finished and and at the end of a long quiet country lane. One of best cottages we have stayed in with lots of walks and cycle rides nearby. The owner is a very nice guy and always offering help and advice for places to go and see. And his dog, Cosmo, we wanted to take him home. Highly recommended place to stay especially if you want some piece and quiet.

It was very peaceful just the thing for a relaxing time.

The cottage was clean and well equipped and the gift was very welcome.Simon the owner lives next door along with Cozmo his dog who is very friendly. We picked the perfect week for the weather and hope to return again.

We loved the wonderful bath on claw feet and such a large bathroom!

Also particularly loved the garden area at the back. Property was very much out of the way - ideal for a quiet get away from it all holiday up a very long road. Plenty of parking too.

We have stayed at these properties before, very dog friendly, never fails to impress us. Owner very helpful.

Shepherds Burn was a wonderful barn renovation in a beautiful rural setting, with calming views of sheep grazing in green hills.

The cottage was welcoming with wine in the fridge and biscuits for tea. It was fully equipped with all the comforts of home and very stylshly furnished. We found the whole experience very relaxing and hope to return.

Superb property, in an idyllic setting.

Though a little bit off the beaten track it allows true escape, and the opportunity to chill in quiet and serene surroundings. The owner next door is really helpful, friendly and approachable, but also respected our privacy. Would definitely recommend to anyone wanting a quiet break away, and ideal for taking dogs on long walks without the need to cross a road. Fabulous

We enjoyed a fabulous week at Shepherds Burn over Easter It’s a very tasteful barn conversion with everything you need for a comfortable stay It is quite remote though which means it’s peaceful with very starry skies if it’s clear - a real bonus Sky TV and rock solid wi fi we’re both welcome o We could have done with more light in the kitchen however but that’s probably because we’re both seniors !

The cottage is clean and well presented, in a secluded quiet area. You really feel like you can get away from it all. Plenty to do in the area and stunning walks from the door step.

This is a hidden gem.

The owner Simon was very nice, his dog Cosmic is such a cutie. Its an absolute dream to stay there, so tranquil and homely, the only issue was that we didnt want to come home. Thinking of booking a few days in November for a long weekend with our dog this time

The barn conversion is beautifully done, with everything you could have wanted supplied, the dishwasher was a bonus.

Beautiful large bath and shower. The location of the cottage was very isolated but absolutely stunning if you're wanting some peace and quiet and don't mind travelling to get places. The only downside was the Internet which didn't work majority of the time which was a shame

We found the cottage location very peaceful.

The facilities were good, a few more mugs would be useful, given the dishwasher. The beds were comfortable. Bedrooms a little cool until we adjusted the heaters. The woodburner was great. The dark skies are a wonder. Would stay again and highly recommend it.

We have been to the companion cottage to this one before and as usual had a very lovely holiday.

The area is superb and the need for isolation at this time was admirably met by this cottage.

Tranquility at its best, lovely, comfortable accommodation in a beautiful location, Simon, the owner, is friendly, helpful and nothing is too much trouble, handling the Covid situation brilliantly.

Lovely walking areas with an abundance of wildlife, including deer, herons on the river, rabbits and many more. Will definitely be returning and would recommend for anyone looking for peace, quiet and nature.

A lovely cottage in an outstanding area.

Came here for my 60th birthday and wasn’t disappointed. Lots of walking from the door, and other places to visit nearby, Kielder water and forest, Otterburn mill for shopping and eating. Simonbourne tea rooms and garden, pubs in Bellingham for food and dog friendly. Hexham for shopping and eating. Simon the owner lives next door and was very friendly and helpful too. Welcome pack was great too. Wifi a bit hit and miss otherwise excellent.

I had two windows open and accidentally booked the wrong property.

I emailed Sykes immediately who said there was nothing they could do despite the genuine booking error. They did not reply to my subsequent emails. In the end the house was beautiful and in an idyllic location. But I was not impressed with the Sykes customer service.

The cottage was lovely but could do with more or better lighting, it was a bit dark especially in the kitchen/lounge

The cottage is in an ideal location to escape from the stresses and strains of everyday life.

We had a lovely week here walking in the forest and by the river. The cottage itself was well equipped with everything we needed but ,more importantly than that, the owners have created a warm and friendly atmosphere where we felt like welcome guests. We are already talking about a return visit!

VERY RELAXING HOLIDAY.

An enjoyable break in a very spacious and well maintained cottage.

High standard of cleanliness and facilities. The bed was extremely comfortable with good quality linen. The enclosed rear garden is brilliant for dogs and there are numerous walks straight from the door. The area is very remote and quiet and perfect for hiking and cycling. Kielder Water is just a few minutes drive and superb, with it's trails etc.

Absolutely amazing cottage, the minute you walk through the door it is welcoming, we were very surprised how big it is the pictures don't reflect the true size of the rooms.

Every thing has been thought of by the owners to a very high standard, good beds and high quality bed linen always a plus in my book.The welcome gifts of eggs, bread, milk, butter, scones and wine were very much appreciated and a nice touch. Ii is quite remote but that was just what we needed some peace and quiet with beautiful views, the stars are amazing. We will be back.

This was a wonderful holiday cottage.

As soon as we walked in the atmosphere was very calming, and we soon discovered the high quality throughout. Uncluttered but providing everything we needed. As heavy snow was forecast for our arrival day, the owner telephoned us the evening before we left. And as it transpired on the day of arrival, the owner had to collect us from the nearest town as we couldn`t proceed any further in our own car!

Shepherds Burn is a lovely and very comfortable cottage, a real retreat.

It is really isolated with miles of wonderful walks literally from the front door, great for dog walking. We will definitely try to come back again next year.

Absolutely no problems at all with this cottage , it is beautiful , all I would like to say ( not a criticism at all ) is for the long rainy nights a DVD player would be very much appreciated.

The scenery and views from the cottage were Beautiful and made for a relaxing, get away from it all break. The walks from the cottage were accessible and an ideal break from car travelling. We would definitely book it again and have already recommended it to family and friends.
