“We had a fantastic week with family at this gorgeous property.”

The views front and back were stunning and the area was very peaceful and restful. It was nice to sit out in the hot tub and I imagine when the stars are out it would be even better. We had a lot of rain and cloud for our week, so also got to enjoy snuggling up on the comfy sofas in front of the log burner and the TV. It was brilliant to have 2 en-suite bathrooms plus the family bathroom. The large table was super for eating all together and playing cards and games together on. So many lovely finishing touches in the property, a very well equipped kitchen and the nicknacks with the fox theme were a lovely addition. The welcome hamper was incredibly generous and thoughtful and appealed to us all with Prosecco, chocolate, pint of milk, coffee, tea, biscuits, jams- a kind thought to include a bubble wand and chocolate stars for my 10 year old daughter also. The pub a 2 minute walk away, The Pheasant Inn, did great food and the tea room in Falstone was super for cake or lunch. Falstone also has a very good playground for kids and a pub that looked good too. We enjoyed walking in the area and at Kielder Forest. Booked tickets for the Kielder Observatory which was great and The Bird of Prey Centre was excellent. We drove to Alnwick and toured the castle and loved the National Trust property, Cragside. A fun week for us all. We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this property as it was perfect, in fact the best rental we have ever stayed in. Many thanks to Jill the owner who was very kind when our car broke down at the end of our stay. (Please remember your midge protection creams and lotions, as you are near Kielder Water/Forest so they are to be expected. A midge protector was also provided by the owner).

About the location

FALSTONE

Bellingham 9 miles; Newcastleton 24.5 miles; Carlisle 49 miles.

The delightful village of Falstone lies at the foot of Kielder Water, the largest man-made lake in Northern Europe, and on the edge of Kielder Forest, the largest forest in Northern Europe. With probably the best ‘dark skies’ in England, and one of the most tranquil places in rural England, the area is ideal for outdoor activities. There are many signed walking paths through the forest, with the 26 mile Lakeside Way around the lake, as well as higher level fell walks. There are cycle tracks with different routes to suit a variety of abilities, plus fishing and an abundance of wildlife in the area, with red squirrel, roe deer and many bird species, including the Osprey. Hadrian's Wall is an easy drive away and there are many castles and fortified houses in the area, reminders from the times when the “Border Reivers” raided the Anglo-Scottish border. National Trust properties, including Wallington Hall and Cragside are also just a scenic drive away from this pretty village.
